Orr, a NO-SHOW at Kammerer Going-Away Party

CBS-3 bids farewell tomorrow to Doug Kammerer, the morning weatherguy for the 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. "Eyewitness News" and 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. "Eyewitness News on the CW" broadscasts. Kammerer is headed for D.C.'s NBC affiliate to become Chief Meteorologist beginning next Monday, the 23rd. Station co-workers threw Kammerer a going away party at a Spring Garden hangout last week and most notably absent was Kammerer's sidekick, Kathy Orr.
Philly.com's Marnie Hall reports what I've also been hearing the last year -- that Orr and Kammerer did not see eye to eye more often than not. The problems began during last winter's once-in-a-lifetime heavy snows when station management decided to put Orr and Kammerer in "top billing status". Orr, the station's "Chief Meteorologist" had big issues with sharing her top billing with Kammerer which led to who got more facetime, who got to lead the coverage, etc. Once LaRosa accepted a position with The Weather Channel and departed the morning broadcast was when management found a solution to their problem by placing Kammerer in the morning weather slot, thus, separating the two. Orr and Kammerer never had much to talk about from that point on and there's been no love lost on either part. Orr's attitude is basically "don't let the door hit ya in the you-know-what", according to a few in-the-know.
It's quite a shame in that I preferred Kammerer over Orr any day and felt he was probably the best in this market since Rob Guarino was let go from FOX-29. I had high hopes KYW would bring on Guarino in Kammerer's slot but that wasn't meant to be with the newly hired Justin Drabick, who, lacks in the personality department.
Best of luck to Doug in his new job...keep up the great personality and the naturalness you display. You'll definitely do well in D.C.

I agree in that Doug is great. But, I also have to say I like Adam Joseph's presentation too. Channel 6's new graphics and big board helps too--but Adam seems genuinely into what he's doing and not just putting in his shift so to speak. Rob G was undoubtedly the best this market has seen when it comes to knowing what you're talking about! He runs a fantastic weather site (liveweatherblogs.com) that is smokin hot in the winter to read about all the winter storms. I digress though, Doug will be missed and I wish him the best!

Rob G was a big bag of BORE. Please, he wasn't the best. In fact, he looked spaced out at times as if her were on the run, wanted by the law.

It's surprising to hear this about Kathy and Doug since they both left NBC10; I think Orr arrived at CBS3 first. You'd think she had influced CBS3 execs to get Doug on board. Who knows? Doug suffers from that strange mouth afflication. I can't quite describe it, it's like he talks with marbles in his mouth at times. I liked him though. And finally about this Justin guy. What's up with his head/neck? Is it just me or does he have an affinity for leaning to the right?

OMG, hilarious---"a big bag of BORE". Where did THAT come from? LOL. I'm sure Kathy had influence in bringing Doug on but I doubt she anticipated management would have put him equal to her. Sounds like alot of jealousy to me on her part. I never cared for her at 10 and find her just as boring now. Nothing stands out to make her shine. As for Justin, maybe his mother dropped him as a baby?

Wherever that Justin guy came from he needs to go back. He's overly tanned, smiles too much which doesn't look natural and will never fit in here.

During the final farewell on Talk Philly (farewell 3 of 3 counting the AM ones on both KYW and WPSG), they aired a package of Doug's best moments on the show. There was a bit featuring him and Kathy in a food segment, and you could definitely feel some tension there.

Regardless, best wishes to Doug. You could tell he liked his time spent at CBS Philly, and it definitely showed on-air.

Egos, egos, and more egos! Too bad Orr felt the heat from the younger Kammerer. She should have the issue with management, not Doug. Get over yourself.

Doug E. Fresh will be missed by the ladies around town...he was definite eye candy for the 35-54 demo.
